Irish Social Housing

The overall programme, delivered in phases, will ensure a steady supply of housing in the right locations with economic, social and environmental sustainability built-in. The first two bundles of the programme are now complete, with bundle two comprising 465 new homes across eight developments in the counties of Cork, Kildare, Clare, Galway, Waterford and Roscommon.

The scheme was carried out to Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEB) standard, in accordance with the requirements of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2010/31/EC) and as such, all units comprise; passive energy conservation employing natural ventilation, increased building insulation levels and improved overall external wall performance, active energy measures such as photovoltaic roof panels and air source heat pumps. All homes across the project have an A2 Building Energy Rating. Furthermore, during the design and construction stages, innovations were adopted in order to decrease energy use and reduce carbon dioxide emissions – some of the initiatives include conserving water during the construction phase, using low-impact construction materials, promoting waste recycling throughout the supply chain and encouraging biodiversity across the sites.

Families are already occupying their new homes and are benefiting from the scheme’s new quality secure accommodation provided at affordable rents.

Bundle two of the overall programme was the winner of the 2022 Partnership Awards for Best Social Housing Development of the Year and shortlisted as finalists for Best COVID Response.
